educator-led projects from around the world

Here are six powerful examples of educator-led projects from around the world:

  1. The Daily Mile (Scotland)

Started by headteacher Elaine Wyllie in 2012 at St Ninian’s Primary in Stirling, The Daily Mile encourages children to walk, run, or wheel for 15 minutes each school day to boost fitness and concentration.
Today, the initiative has spread to over 5 million students across 20,000 schools in 96 countries—including the UK, Israel, the U.S., and Canada.

  1. Global Teaching Project (USA & India)

This program connects exceptional teachers to students in underserved areas—including rural Mississippi and remote schools in India—via technology-enabled blended learning. It offers advanced STEM courses that would otherwise be unavailable to many students globally.

  1. SMILE Project in Kaduna, Nigeria

The Support Mainstreaming Inclusion So All Learn Equally (SMILE) project used a community-driven approach to foster inclusive school environments in Kaduna. This hands-on intervention helped ensure children with disabilities could engage fully in their local schools—a shining example of educators rallying to leave no learner behind.

  1. ÖLE Nepal (Nepal)

Open Learning Exchange Nepal (OLE Nepal) is empowering rural schools through digital innovation. Since 2007, they’ve introduced laptops, interactive open-source learning content (E‑Paath), a digital library (E‑Pustakalaya), and teacher training to over 10,000 students across 50 schools in 16 districts.

  1. GLOBE Program (Worldwide)

A hands-on science education initiative active in over 125 countries, the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program enables students and educators to collect local environmental data and collaborate with scientists—fostering scientific literacy and global environmental stewardship.

  1. Eco-Schools (Global)

This is the world’s largest eco-education network, engaging over 19 million students across 67 countries. By following a seven-step process—from forming eco-committees to community outreach—schools earn the Green Flag while cultivating environmental responsibility among educators and students alike.

“Teaching is more than imparting knowledge; it is inspiring change. Learning is more than absorbing facts; it is acquiring understanding.”
